description and background to the film
one minute production - victorian college of the arts, melbourne australia.
It was required that this film be only one minute in duration. While in Europe I carried a dictaphone everywhere and one of the themes I would consistently do on my travels was stand in an open public space and record the incomprehensible mumble generated by a crowd of people. I was curious to see if different languages generated a different sort of collective murmur. So 'mumble' can best be described as a sample film, as all the dialogue is real, from real people unaware that I was 'stealing' from them. it is also a film about censorship as the last character is removed from the shelf, post stamped and sent away.
